Music and Sports are both considered entertainment. They thrive based on the spending of our disposable income. Both instill passion and loyalty in their fans, and the stars and players of each are revered, often elevated to an almost God-like status at times.
Sports and music create hopes, dreams and aspirations for people all over the world, some very personal, and some as a collective of the people. We root for our teams, we sing along to our favorite songs and we revel in the spectacle of performance and achievement. Everybody loves a winner.
Too often, we forget the underpinnings of all this success and celebration. Each person, each player, each tour manager, each trainer, each coach, each band member and each songwriter – basically everybody involved on the road to success, has something in common – namely passion and hard work. All are part of the triumph and also of the heartbreak encountered along the way. All are part of the chain, and integral links in the journey and the destination.
People in music and sports know and share the same universal knowledge – it takes a team to succeed, and each team member doing their best is critical and vital to success of the individual, and the organization. They know there are no guarantees, ever.
But they also know when people combine their individual passions and visions, relentless hard work and dedication, and are driven to find the right team to work with….magical things are not only possible, but happen!
Nashville is Team Music and Team Sports
It wasn’t until 1950 that WSM-AM announcer David Cobb christened Nashville “Music City U.S.A.” on the air. Today, Nashville is home to all kinds of hit music and is recognized as the songwriting capital of the world. Serious musicians, singers, songwriters and producers continue to flock here in droves.
Tin Pan South is the world’s largest songwriting festival. Kings of Leon, Jack White, Ed Sheeran, Jill Scott, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, Sheryl Crow, Kid Rock, Carrie Underwood, and scores of others call Nashvegas home. Mega producers Jim Jonsin, Claude Kelly & Chuck Harmony, Kevin Kadish, Shannon Sanders and Dan Auerbach are just a few of the wizards living here. Justin Timberlake, Reese Witherspoon and Jay Z’s Roc Nation are also here and present.
Nashville may be the last place people would expect to house successful pro sports teams. Professional hockey in Nashville? You bet! The NHL Predators were Stanley Cup finalists last year and are competing to have a shot at another one. It’s been a 20-year journey. Their chain? Fierce and competitive players, back office and an incredible fan base. All continue to propel them to new heights and make national news.
Professional football in Nashville? Yep. The NFL’s the Tennessee Titans have persevered since their arrival in 1998 to become a beloved team of the people. They are rebuilding under the ownership of Amy Adams, a new coaching staff and new NISSAN sponsorship. Marcus Mariota is young, but is learning and growing. New links are joining older links. New fans are joining the diehards, who ever thought they’d make it 20 years? The Music City Miracle indeed!
But the most amazing and recent story of all is Nashville’s newest team – the MLS expansion team currently known as The Nashville Soccer Club. Named as the lastest MLS team to come online in 2019 or 2020, Nashville beat out 11 other cities to win the approval of the MLS and to garner the financial and government support to build a brand new $275 million soccer stadium. This all happened in less than a year, the shortest time in the history of a new major league franchise.
Music and sports in Nashville continue to focus on passion, hard work and fan engagement, and reaching higher to be the best that they can be. Music and Sports ARE Team Nashville. Why not join us in the game. We’ll root for you too.
